This semester, I have been surprised by the literacy levels of my students. They are able understand the vocabulary terms they learn and they are also able to define and use their mathematical vocabulary terms. They are not able to justify their work though. When they are able to do a math problem they struggle in putting it into words and explain their reasoning.

SEPTEMBER 2013

Next year when I become a teacher my literacy rich classroom will have a vocabulary word wall for the students. There will also be a bulletin board ready for super star students work when they are able to justify their math work into words and explain. This will help keep students aware of their vocabulary and motivated to accomplish great work. My students will be engaged in getting to know their classmates and also my teaching style. My students are reading the text book sections to help them understand the mathematical concepts I taught that day.

DECEMBER 2013

My classroom will still consist of a vocabulary word wall but the wall will begin to grow! The bulletin board of super stars will also begin to grow as my students get comfortable with justifying their mathematical reasoning. My students are engaged in learning the mathematical concept and figuring out how it can relate to them outside of our math class. My students begin to read the section in the book a day prior to teaching the lesson in order for them to get an idea of what they will be learning. Also to build a foundation for the students therefore they are not going into the lesson blind. My students are writing down at the end of their notes things that they found important in the class period each day. My students begin to get comfortable with their classmates and they begin to being able to orally discuss mathematical reassigns they have accomplished.

MAY 2014

My classroom becomes to full of vocabulary terms and students begin to use the terms regularly. Also the super star board of justified math work that students have become experts at. My students begin to be engaged in finding out how the mathematical content we learn and how it connects to real life situations on their own. They are engaged in understanding and applying what they know when they get home in their everyday life. My students are capable of independent learning in area's such as vocabulary and justifying mathematical concepts!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805998964867864500.post-37394458483416134922012-11-20T10:26:00.000-08:002012-11-20T10:26:37.564-08:00

In this article I was really surprised how manny administrators were for this. This idea of the Dream Box. The idea that students will be able to give up valuable in formation that will help teachers influence their their lessons and adapt to their students. Its really surprised me that 67% of administrators said that using technology in the classroom will improve student engagement. What doesn't surprise me is that even though so many schools believe technology will help not many schools are taking further action. In my own teaching I will try to incorporate student intrestes and tecnology in my classroom. At my clinical practice now it is really hard to incorporate digital age technology due how low of an income area the school is located.
It was an interesting topic to me in the fact the students were asked to talk to the president and also that they all seemed to be in high school. What about K-8th grade?? Something that surprised me is that a lot of the students had the same answers. Were they given options to choose from? Something that did not surprise me was that the answers they had. Everyone knows that things like technology and smaller class sized are always needed. One thing it did spark my interest is that if i did this for my kids I would be able to know what my students think will help them in the classroom. Once i know what my students need then I will be able to help them in anyway way i could.
The first and main reason I feel it would be helpful is having two adults and educators in the classroom. Be able to take on the co teaching model is proven to make a more successful classroom atmosphere. Another reason that this would be good is that the classes and knowledge that future teachers have will help give multiple views and ideas on how to teach topics. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805998964867864500.post-45861503313883291302012-11-20T09:40:00.002-08:002012-11-20T09:40:31.602-08:00Unit Plan

In my classroom there is a huge lean towards the common core
I have seen a little more creativity in the classroom more then I have ever
seen before. The main thing we are
trying to get the students to think critically everyday. This critically thinking usually comes in at
the beginning of each lesson. We try to
get the students to think critically before we give them any information or
notes on the topic. This is also when discussion
occurs in our classroom. At the
beginning of the unit or section we give the students a serious of essential
questions for them to think crucially and have a discussion with their
classmates. This is something that’s very
hard for them to try and do they want the math just given to them so they can
work on their classwork or homework. We
are trying to get them in the mode of thinking critically before any answers
are given to them. The main literacy
point in our classroom is using quick writes for the students. One problem with it is some students do not
take the quick writes seriously.
Technology in the classroom is limited where I am the main thing we use is
a doc cam and that’s about it. I would
really like to see the use of technology and media literacy to be used more in
the classroom. A lot of the work we do in
the classroom is with a partner or group.
One way I try and get my students self-directed is trying to motivate
them to care about their grade. If they
care about their grade they hopefully will be self directed to learn. I don’t have a problem getting the students
to work with others but they usually get to choose their groups. There hasn’t been much experimentation to see
how they worked with others and diverse teams in the classroom. That is something I would be interested in
seeing my class do. In my classroom I try
to get students to use creativity in multiple ways with group work or working
individually. Having many strategies to
teach students makes the content more accessible for them to LEARN!

I was walking at lunch and saw a young pregnant girl eating lunch alone. It made me think to see if there could be a group for young pregnant girls to join. This would give them an opportunity to relate to other young girls that are going through the same thing as her. When i'm a teacher I would open my classroom up at lunch for these girls to come in, feel safe. and relate to peers that understand what they are going through.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805998964867864500.post-74517008487792408312012-10-15T18:18:00.001-07:002012-10-15T18:18:38.981-07:00After today we learned all about the human brain with adolescents it really intrigued my lesson planning process. The teenage brain is still growing in high School and I want to make sure my students know that. Maybe at the Beijing if each lesson I would give my students a "fun fact" about their brain. This would get there brains thinking and also hopefully help them understand that their brains are still growing.
With my clinical practice I really have noticed that if you connect mathematical concepts to their lives in the real work they understand. It also helps answer the infamous question of when am I ever going to use this. Also I want to be able to get to know my students and there extra curricular activities/interests so that I can incorporate these into my lessons. With this I hope to connect Marth with my students on a personal level in order to help them remember mathematical concepts.
I really feel students begin to engage in learning if they are interested in the topic, they are good at the topic or even if it is something fun for them. If I try to make Math fun for my students I feel they will connect better and actually come into my classroom wanting to learn new math. Also having a fun and safe learning environment for my students will help motivate them to want to come in and learn. Ideas are games, puzzles, connecting to their lives or maybe just making sure they understand before moving on to a new topic. These are just some of the ideas I came up with to engage students in learning. I hope to LEARN more to engage my students in learning.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805998964867864500.post-54107574882546843542012-10-15T11:14:00.003-07:002012-10-15T11:16:58.885-07:00CKICK HERE FOR MANAGEMENT PLAN!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805998964867864500.post-25102680656316715132012-10-08T10:42:00.002-07:002012-10-08T10:42:25.003-07:00
Something I really liked with an SDAIE strategy was group work with using small white boards. This allowed the students to work in small groups on problems at their own pace. When they got an answer right they held up their board and the teacher would allow them to move on to the next problem. It worked so well in the classroom and kept students engaged!
with an open ended question. The question was, "What do you find the hardest when given a math word problem?" The number one answer that I came across was that the students did not know how to take the words and apply it to an actually math equation. Another issue many students also had was not understanding the vocabulary words that are used in the problem. Lastly, something important that I noticed is the amount of spelling and grammar errors written in there quick write about math word problems. As a teacher this shows me that when it comes to vocabulary and words problems we needs to spend a little more time in order to make sure the students understand what they need to do. These answers are exactly what I would of expected from high school students especially since I am at a school with a large amount of English Learners. With now knowing this information it will help me when I begin teaching. It shows me to spend some extra focus on going over vocabulary with my students and also make sure they are practicing how to change word problems to numbers. If you look closely you can see one projector on the ceiling and on the cart is a second projector and they are connected by a cord. This is due to the teachers bulb burning out in the original projector and they are not able to get her a new one for 2-3 months. So they had to stick this second one in the middle of her classroom

On most of my work and when I fill out paper work I stick to Tristan Kennedy. Kelley is my middle name and Li'Kana is my first name in Guamanian. I also have two last names taken from my biological father and Step father. Something interesting about my first name is that my mom refused to find out all her kids gender and picked a name not gender specific so that we would have our name not matter our gender!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14615711918623032494noreply@blogger.com0
